I’ll be the first to admit that I’m procrastination-prone. Always have been, and likely always will be. Though it’s not something I advocate, the reality is that there are lots of people who fall prey to the procrastination curse at some point or other.
But it doesn’t always have to be a bad thing, and there are actually things you can do to make your procrastinating productive. That means logging out of Netflix, closing your YouTube homepage and steering clear of the celebrity gossip blogs that you spend hours trawling through every day. Find out how below:
1. Catch up on emails
Why not take some time to clean up your inbox, reply to some emails and draft and send the messages you’ve been putting off for a while? You’ll feel much better once everything is in order.
2. Brainstorm new ideas
Put pen to paper and start jotting down some new ideas. Whether you’re employed and could benefit from presenting some fresh concepts to your boss, or an entrepreneur who wants to spruce up your business plan – you can do so by dedicating some time to a serious brainstorming sesh.
3. Re-organise your workspace
Be honest, what’s your desk looking like right about now? That’s if you can even see it underneath the masses of junk you’ve piled onto it. If you’re not going to get any work done the least you can do is make it look like you intend to get down to business at some point.
4. Learn some new skills
Self-teaching is a great way to procrastinate, and it doesn’t have to cost you a penny. What set of skills have you been meaning to brush up on or introduce to your arsenal. The internet is awash with useful information or you can look for some educational books that can help you broaden your knowledge.
5. Expand your network
They say networking is the key to career success so get out there and go along to any relevant events you can find. Face-to-face schmoozing not your thing? Hop on LinkedIn and update your profile, join groups, follow influencers or companies and search for new connections.
