Veteran broadcaster and Olympic commentator, Clare Balding OBE, has long been a champion of gender diversity in sport. In a new interview with The Pool she discussed her current views on the topic post Rio 2016 Olympics, saying:
“I do keep trying to get the message out there about women in sport because I think, a bit like the Paralympics, that has a bigger impact as well. And I think for countries where women still can’t vote or can’t drive or can’t work – and indeed in this country where women are certainly not paid equally – I think it has a very big impact to see strong, powerful, muscular women doing well. Being allowed to be competitive and get sweaty and shout at each other, and being able to celebrate too.
“There’s a deeper strength to all of that, that I want girls to feel.”
