Telecoms company Vodafone recently launched its ReConnect programme, designed to reintroduce more career-break women to employment. Over a three-year period the initiative will hire 1,000 people worldwide split half-and-half between frontline, customer facing roles and managerial posts.
Though men aren’t excluded from the programme, it’s been dubbed ‘the world’s largest recruitment programme for women on career breaks’ – and aims to attract skilled women who’ve been out of work for up to several years. Vodafone recognises that many women struggle to balance career and motherhood after starting a family, and ReConnect promises to offer support to those looking for part-time and flexible arrangements.
Research carried out by KPMG for Vodafone estimates that there are 96 million women globally, aged 30-54, who are on career breaks, more than half of whom with management experience.
