London Mayor Sadiq Khan introduces new coaching scheme to increase the number of women leaders in the capital

The Mayor of London has announced the launch of the Our Time initiative as part of the #BehindEveryCity campaign which challenges gender inequality in the capital.

At a time when a FTSE 100 CEO is more likely to be called John than be a woman, and when maternal employment in London is 8% lower than the rest of the country, Our Time acknowledges that gender inequality in the workplace is an ‘unacceptable situation’, especially as evidence shows that companies benefit from having women in leadership positions.

The initiative will pair women with well-connected males and females working in senior management who can give them access to opportunities and contacts that they wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

“This is Our Time to support more women from all backgrounds into leadership roles,” says Sadiq Khan.
