The co-working space trend is growing and according to the 2017 Global Coworking Survey it’s estimated that more than 1.1 million people used co-working spaces worldwide that year alone. If you’re looking for your own workspace to call home, it’s important to weigh up your options (and you have many of them) so that you can find the perfect spot for yourself and your business. Here are six things to consider when choosing a co-working space.

  1. Culture

The ethos, values and overall energy of a co-working space can hugely impact the work you’ve set out to do and the ideas you want to create. Whether you’re looking for somewhere vibrant, quirky, creative or mellow, culture matters.

  1. Decor

Having to sit and work in an environment that you find aesthetically displeasing can significantly impact your productivity and morale. Things like colours, lighting, ornaments and furniture should all be considered when trying to pin down the workplaces best suited to you.

  1. Office layout

Do you want somewhere that’s completely open plan, somewhere that has separate offices, a space with joined or separated desks, somewhere with cosy areas or somewhere with private rooms that you can access for meetings? It’s important to think about how user-friendly a space is and whether or not this benefits you.

  1. Audience

Think about the benefits of working around like-minded people or those who work in the same or similar industry as you. There’s huge potential for mutually beneficial relationships to blossom for the benefit of your business. This could be through learning about new and innovative ways of working or meeting new connections.

  1. Location

When deciding on a location, there’s lots to consider. Do you want somewhere that’s close to home or would you be willing to travel to an area that’s more centrally located? Are you bothered about being close to eateries or bars? Do you need to be able to park nearby and if not how much are you willing to spend on journey fees?

  1. Value for money

And speaking of spend – once you’ve taken the above into consideration, compare the prices of your favourite co-working spaces and see what they can offer. As well as hot desk rental do they offer things like storage access or secure lockers? What’s the additional cost for things like private meeting rooms and a mailing address? Or, if you want to rent an office within a co-working space, would the building round the corner be better value for money?

There’s lot’s to think about and if you’re toying with the idea of locating the best co-working space, there’s no better time to commence your search than right now.

Good luck!
