One of the most frustrating things about being at work is that (unless you’re very lucky) you’ve got to stay there even when things get REALLY stressful. It’s difficult not to feel trapped at moments like this. But fear not! Here are five ways that you can de-stress while you’re still at work.
1. Have a hot drink
Decaffeinated herbal teas like green tea and chamomile have been scientifically proven to reduce stress levels. A great excuse to break for a cuppa when you need to take a moment to decompress.
2. Find a quit space
If you work inside, there should be a quiet room or area in your building where you can hideaway when you need some time to clear your thoughts. If you’re not sure where this is your HR department should be able to point you in the right direction.
3. Focus on your simple tasks
Instead of trying to tackle your mammoth projects all at once, scale things down by honing in on your simpler tasks and save your more demanding assignments for another time.
4. Take an early lunch break
Who says you can’t go for lunch at 11am? If things are getting on top of you there’s no harm in clocking out a little earlier for a bite to eat. Disconnecting for a little while and filling up on food could give you the energy and morale boost needed to jump back into things with a cool head once you’re back at work.
5. Speak to your colleagues
We all experience stressful spells while on the job. The chances are if you’re feeling tense your colleagues will be able to empathise with you. If you have good relationships with the people you work with why not pull one of the them to the side and let them know how you’re feeling? Venting to someone else may help ease some of your stress.
