Name: Aida Rejzovic

Age: 40

Job title: Founder of Sassy Organics

Time in current role: 3 years

Aida is the founder of Sassy Organics, an ethical, organic and vegan online store.

Why did you decide to start your business?

I’ve been a long-time user of organic products since learning about the number of chemicals used in beauty products that are absorbed by our bodies which impact our health. My own health and wellbeing improved significantly after committing to a fully organic lifestyle so I created Sassy Organics based on the belief that prevention is better than cure.

About 20 years ago I became a vegetarian, and about two years ago I went vegan for ethical reasons. My online store is full of natural and organic beauty products which are all vegan and cruelty-free and I take pride in my commitment to never stocking products that have been tested on animals or which include animal-based ingredients. Sassy Organics makes it possible for anyone to embrace this lifestyle.

When you’re running a small business you often have to wear different hats and learn several new skills

What are the key functions of your role?

I’m responsible for the day-to-day operation of Sassy Organics. This includes everything from making sure all orders are packed and dispatched on time to responding to customer queries without delay. I also oversee finances, deal with website designers, consultants, and suppliers, and lots more.

When you’re running a small business you often have to wear different hats and learn several new skills. This can sometime be stressful but I enjoy the challenge and take advantage of the opportunity to learn about different aspects of my business.

Talk us through your typical working day

No two days are the same at Sassy Organics. Although packing parcels and responding to emails is something I do daily, the volume and type of emails we receive differs from day-to-day. On a more quiet day I’ll focus on customer enquiries and general supplier emails, while on a busier day I’ll prioritise media enquiries, new partnership and collaboration emails, and advertising opportunities.

However, my morning routine is always the same. I absolutely love my morning coffee and catching up on news and my notifications. I follow this up with a shower, breakfast and a meditation session. Since my days are so hectic I feel like I need to reset before another day begins. Meditation makes me feel grounded and calm.

Do things in life that you really love. Don’t settle for second-best. If you’re not happy with your job find ways to change your career

Your favourite part of the job?

I love receiving feedback from customers who’ve had a positive experience with our products. Things like that really make my day.

…and the part you could do without?

I would definitely have to say paperwork and accounting – especially reconciliation. There’s the fun and then there’s paperwork, which simply has to be done daily. Otherwise I can never catch up which can be draining long-term.

My dream would be to own a sanctuary farm that houses beautiful animals, especially those in need of love and care

How would your clients describe you in three words?

Perfectionist, ambitious and kind.

Plans for the future?

It’s no surprise that I love animals and I’m big on animal welfare. My dream would be to own a sanctuary farm that houses beautiful animals, especially those in need of love and care. I can see myself rescuing animals in the future and giving them the home and love they ought to have.

Do you have any advice for other aspiring entrepreneurs?

Do things in life that you really love. Don’t settle for second-best. If you’re not happy with your job find ways to change your career. This may be easier said than done but you’ve got to start somewhere. We spend way too many hours at work not to be happy. At least give it a go and don’t wait for the perfect moment as it may never come. Make a decision, commit to it and take your first step. The rest will follow. LLY
